Business website or online store: which one do you need?
10 August 2026 · 6 min read
“I need a website” actually covers two very different projects, with neither similar costs nor similar designs. Clarifying this before starting avoids paying for what you will not use.
A business website is there to convince
Its role is to establish your credibility and trigger contact: a call, a message, a quote request, a visit. It presents a business, references, a team, an address.
It is the right choice if your sale is closed in a conversation — services, consulting, craftsmanship, construction, regulated professions, import-export. You do not need a shopping cart, you need people to call you.
An online store is there to take payment
It adds a catalogue, a cart, a checkout, payment methods, stock and delivery management. Each of these elements requires design, configuration and testing. That is what explains the price difference.
It is the right choice if your products sell without prior discussion, at a displayed price, with logistics in place.
The deciding question
Ask yourself this: can someone buy from you without talking to you? If so, a store is justified. If the sale requires a quote, a visit or a discussion of needs, a well-made business website will produce more — and cost less.
The premature store trap
We regularly see online stores built before the logistics are ready: no reliable stock, no delivery solution, nobody to process orders. The site works, nobody feeds it, and it ends up damaging the image it was meant to serve.
Starting with a business website and adding online sales later is perfectly possible, and often wiser.
What matters in both cases
- Mobile: in Morocco, most traffic comes from phones. A site designed for desktop first shows it immediately.
- Speed: a slow site loses its visitors before it is read, and search engines take it into account.
- Obvious contact: phone and WhatsApp available without searching, on every page.
- Maintenance: a website is software. Without updates or backups, it eventually goes down or gets compromised.
What about cash on delivery?
It is a key payment method in Morocco, and it changes how the checkout is designed: the form must be quick to fill in on a phone, the address reliable, and the confirmation clear. We set it up alongside online payment, not instead of it.
Our prices
The two options are priced separately on our dedicated pages, precisely because they do not represent the same work. Our web request form actually starts with this question: it is what determines the quote.
