Domiciliation or commercial premises: how to decide

Every company must declare a registered office address. This obligation leads many founders to rent premises they have no use for — a fixed cost incurred just to tick an administrative box.

What domiciliation solves

Domiciliation gives you a professional address usable as a registered office, backed by a contract, with reception of your mail. It meets the regulatory requirement and gives you a credible address on your quotes, invoices and business documents.

What it does not replace: a place to meet clients, store goods or house a team. If your business needs that, the question of premises arises for real reasons, and it then becomes an operational choice, not an administrative constraint.

The comparison that matters

Premises mean rent, often a deposit, sometimes renovation work, service charges, insurance and a lease of several years. Domiciliation is a fixed-term contract, with no property commitment.

For a consulting, services, e-commerce or import-export business run from a home office, the difference in cost over a year is considerable — and it concerns fixed costs, the ones that weigh heaviest when business starts slowly.

What to check before signing

• Term and renewal: for what period are you committing, and how is the contract extended?

• Exit: what happens if you take premises? A transfer of registered office is a formality; it is better to know who handles it.
